Edition results

The 8th edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

Six applications were submitted for the eighth edition of the “Science is for the People” competition. All of them met the formal requirements and were qualified for the second stage.

During its deliberations, the Competition Committee selected two winning projects:

  • dr. Zbigniew Szkop of the Faculty of Economic Sciences on. valuing the economic value of the benefits provided by urban trees;
  • prof. Maciej Duszczyk of the Migration Research Center dot. migration plans of Polish and foreign medical students.

You are welcome to submit your projects in future editions. The next call for proposals is planned for October 2023.

The 7th edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

Nine applications were submitted for the seventh edition of the “Science is for the People” competition, two of which did not meet the formal requirements. Seven projects qualified for the second stage.

During its deliberations, the Competition Committee selected two winning projects:

  • dr. Robert Staniszewski of the Department of Political Science and International Studies on. Public perception of migrants, refugees and government actions;
  • MA. Piotr Grajewski of the Department of Psychology on. Identifying risk factors for the development of computer game addiction.

We sincerely thank all applicants for their commitment and participation in the competition, and encourage them to submit their projects in future editions.

The 6th edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

In the 6th edition of the CWiD UW’s “Science is for the People” competition, the juryawarded a prize of the full gross amount of PLN 15,000to the project of Ph. Sylwia Makomaska, which deals with artistic and functional concepts of background music. The aim of the study was to reveal the mechanisms that manage the listener’s auditory attention and the effects of the (omni)presence of music.

We sincerely congratulate you! We encourage researchers to participate in future editions of the competition.

The 5th edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

We already know the results of the 5th edition of the CWiD UW “Science is for the People” competition!
The jury singled out two projects. The first of these, reported by Prof. dr. hab. Lukasz Wyrzykowski of the UW Astronomical Observatory, concerns the publication of the largest set of data and results from a Gaia mission involving OAUW scientists (Gaia DR3). University of Warsaw researchers have authored articles on the search for black holes. Information from the Gaia mission is changing our ideas about Earth’s place in the Universe, bringing groundbreaking discoveries about the structure of our Galaxy.
The second winning project is based on an analysis of the law and case law on mental health care in Poland. It was submitted by Dr. Katarzyna Syroka-Marczewska (Faculty of Law and Administration, UW). The project aims to create awareness about the legal tools to take care of mental health in our country.
The 5th edition of the “Science is for the People” competition received 11 entries. All of them met the formal requirements.

The 4th edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

We now know the results of the 4th edition of the CWiD UW “Science is for the People” competition. As part of the fourth edition of our competition, 30 applications were received, 22 of which qualified for the second stage (the rest were rejected for formal reasons).
The winner was a project by Anna Yupovich-Ginalskaya, Ph.D., a professor at the UW Department of Journalism, Information and Bibliology. This project is about communication support for a cyclical study titled “The study of the world. “FOMO: Poles and the Fear of Disconnection.” Our sincere congratulations.
And a new report summarizing the third edition of the aforementioned research, this time focusing on the scale of FOMO during a pandemic, will be released on December 16. We cordially invite you to read its results.

The 3rd edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

We are happy to announce that during its deliberations, the Competition Committee selected three winning projects:
– research on. pollination process and the relevance of local greens in urban ecosystems conducted by Dr. Katarzyna Roguz (UW Department of Biology);
– research on. Residents’ attitudes toward green alternatives in the area of urban transportation conducted by Dr. Anna Nicinska (Faculty of Economic Sciences, UW);
– research on. The use of wetland ecosystems in river valleys as buffer zones that promote water quality improvement in agricultural catchments led by Ph. Ewa Jablonska (UW Department of Biology).

For the third edition of the “Science is for the People” competition, 10 applications were submitted on time, of which four were rejected for formal reasons.

The second edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE.

In the second edition of the “Science is for the People” competition, 10 applications were received by the deadline, of which five were rejected for formal reasons. During the second meeting of the competition commission, 2 winning projects were selected. The winners were:

1st edition of the competition SCIENCE IS FOR PEOPLE

Three projects were submitted to the first pilot edition of the “Science is for the People” competition. Two of the projects advanced to the next stage, and one was rejected for formal reasons.

The Competition Committee awarded the prize to the project dot. a study of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people and the economy, reported by Professor. PhD Joanna Tyrowicz of the UW Faculty of Management.
