The cosmos is a space still being discovered by man. It offers people unlimited opportunities, but also raises numerous concerns, being a source of potential threats. We approach the topic of space in a cross-cutting manner, reflecting on the social, scientific, economic and political aspects of its exploration. It is difficult to talk about the development of space knowledge without analyzing the effects of its use and their impact on human life.

Cosmos in culture

Since, as we have already written about in an earlier text, even on the wall of the rock cave at Lascaux one can see a map of the stars among other drawings, this means that human fascination with the cosmos has manifested itself in artistic activity since ancient times. Learn about the theme of space in culture.

Animals in space

Can animals survive space travel? Sending animals into space has helped scientists over the years to determine whether space travel involving humans will be possible, as well as how an organism responds to conditions in extraterrestrial space. NASA’s research shows that animals quickly adapt to new – surprising to them – conditions. Of course, however, it is one thing to survive a trip in a spacecraft and another to function for an extended period of time in open space.

Space exploration

The commercialization of space means the massive use and exploration of space by private entrepreneurs. This means, among other things. The appearance in orbits around the earth of a large number of private satellites.

An abundance of raw materials

Have you ever wondered what riches are hidden in space? Increasingly, we are looking upward with the hope that somewhere out there – far out in space – valuable resources await us. If we could reach them, we could solve the problem of dwindling land resources. Is this really possible?

Clean up the cosmos

The term space junk encompasses both natural space “waste” in the form of meteoroids and artificial ones, i.e. those created by human activity. The category of man-made space junk includes any object that has ceased to perform its original function and is orbiting the Earth (as opposed to meteoroids, which orbit the Sun).

Law in space

Have you ever wondered who owns the cosmos? Or is it a no-man’s space? Can states freely and without any restrictions explore or even appropriate space? Read about how human presence and activities in extraterrestrial space have been regulated by law.

Life in space

Many and many of us would like to escape from the daily cares and burdens of earthly life into a state of carefree weightlessness. But is this possible in the long run? Is staying in space really something carefree and easy? Consider, for example, our bodies. After all, the conditions that prevail in space are radically different from those on Earth.

Cosmos in our earthly daily life

Do you happen to look for unusual astronomical phenomena? Probably so. And do you have the confidence that you can name the phenomena you observe in the sky? Or do you happen to dream of a career as an astronaut? Just in case, we provide a handful of “space” information below. Who knows, maybe they will prove useful to you the next time – with binoculars or a telescope glued to your face – you wander with your eyes among the stars.
